Dear Secretary Johanns:

I understand that everyday, there are instances of animal torture and abuse in US Factory Farms, and the USDA does not uphold and enforce the Humane Slaughter Act.

I urge you to take immediate action to enforce the Humane Slaughter Act to stop animal abuse and suffering. http://www.fsis.usda.gov/PDF/LSIT_HumaneHandling.pdf

We are requesting that all inhumane treatment, suffering and torture that occur in commercial farms be stopped once and for all.  We were inspired by the recent public announcement that Burger King will withdraw purchasing from Pig farms who treated their livestock inhumanely. There will be increased financial withdrawals, by large customers, if these factories do to immediately begin to implement humane production and slaughter methods.

We trust The USDA to uphold and enforce its own standards. It would be criminal for us to treat loved pet the way that farm animals are treated, and they do experience horrific, tremendous pain and grief. We as a civilized nation, can take steps to act in a humane way, and ask that minimally, we uphold Federal Law at any cost.

Please use your authority and conscience to implement the law and put an end to the suffering now.
